Hong Kong Pet Import Requirements
Pet eligibility check
No pregnancy over 4 weeks. No banned breeds (Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro or crosses). Bengal cats need 5th+ generation proof.
Microchip and Minimum age
ISO/AVID readable microchip required. Group 1/3: 60+ days old. Group 2: 5+ months old.
Vaccinations
Core vaccines (dogs: distemper/hepatitis/parvo; cats: panleucopenia/cat flu) 14 days – 1 year before travel. Group 3 needs full primary + boosters.
Rabies: Group 2 required (30 days – 1 year prior); Groups 1/3 optional (recommended for 3).
Quarantine (Group 3 only)
Dogs/cats from Group 3: 120+ days quarantine – book ahead. Disability Assistance Dogs exempt with 6-month old rabies antibody test.
Travel rules
Manifest cargo only, fastest direct route. No excess/hand baggage. Group 2/3 stopovers need approval. No parasite treatment needed.

- Size: Spacious enough for your pet to stand, turn, and lie down comfortably.
- Material: Fiberglass, metal, rigid plastics, welded wire mesh, solid wood or plywood (meeting IPPC standards) (There may be special requirements for certain breeds).
- Ventilation: Openings on all 4 sides to provide plenty of airflow.
- Rigid plastic containers must be securely bolted together with metal nutes and bolts.
- Spacer bars to prevent other freight from blocking ventilation.
- Labeling: Clearly marked with “Live Animal” and your contact details.
